Spring-time marketing
Don't start off your newsletter, email or call to action with "Spring is in the air". I really could care less, plus you're telling me that your product is so boring, you can't come up with your own greeting. After I read "Spring is in the Air", you've lost me, and I'm on to the next thing.

the more things change .... they stay same ....
Do you remember the 8 track? If you're my age, you remember more chatter than the actual product. "Revolutionizing the music industry" by taking your music with you. Pretty cool.
Now there is the iPod ... take thousands of songs with you and jump to any one in a moments notice.
The reality is, they are the same. They both play music ... one song at a time.
The difference is the reach, frequency, quality, and brand satisfaction. Are you running an 8 track marketing campaign, or do you have a campaign that uses traditional, viral and social mediums?
Evaluate.
Be clear, concise, compelling and creative.

Is that my idea?
The ad world is interesting. I just spent the last 6 months trying to win accounts through RFP format. Two of those campaigns are currently being implemented using the communications strategy we developed.
Funny thing, we didn't launch the campaign.
Where do I draw the line between intellectual property and "naw, that was my idea". The one thing I have learned in chasing new business is that if you put a lot of non-billable effort into getting new business, you will reap non-billable income ... that $0 for those of you with your calculators out.
Be there. Be available, but don't let clients peek under the sheets. If they like you, they will choose you ... regardless of how sexy your campaign pitch will be.
